At 29,000 square feet, this public park is one of the largest indoor waterparks in the Carolinas. It provides great entertainment, events, and training/classes to the community of Charlotte.

Ray’s Splash Planet - icon problem

The Problem Identified

Ray’s Splash Planet, much like other indoor waterparks, is a highly corrosive environment for both exposed and embedded metals. Due to the high humidity, temperature and constant exposure to pool chemicals (most importantly chlorine) the reinforced concrete stairs and platforms began to corrode resulting in damage and closure of the park.

The Solution Developed

Along with the necessary repairs, a PatchGuard™ 350 Connect HiFlow system was specified. The anodes were installed to underside of the stairs and platforms and the feeder wires were routed to a central junction box, where each of the independent zones could be monitored in the future.

The Benefits Provided

The installation of the PatchGuard™ 350 Connect HiFlow system will mitigate future corrosion of the structure over the intended design life (20+ years). Through corrosion mitigation, the park minimizes the risk of future disturbances to one its main attractions and avoids additional closures for restoration. The public will benefit by this proactive approach to dealing with corrosion.
